I was inspired by 50’s-60’s magazines and cook books that were directed towards women from that time with the goal of helping them become the perfect homemakers. Looking at it from a contemporary point of view I imagined some women might have felt very restricted by the limitations available to them in that time period. So I created The Green Goddess character based on the then popular salad dressing as sort of a best girlfriend/superhero/alter ego for these lonely housewives. It’s made from bits and pieces of pictures from different cookbooks and food magazines. Her silhouette was inspired by 18th century theatrical costumes and Marie Antoinette.

In this piece, the perfect housewife created this golem to help her with her household tasks. She created it of leftovers from her exploration of wonderful cooking recipes. Although everything in her life seemed perfect: perfect husband, perfect children, perfect house, etc., she was frustrated and unsatisfied with her life. Her golem picked up on this. And one day it went beserk.
